On Saturday, Deba Murmu, Ajoy Murmu and Soumyajit Murmu from Picherdanga village under Pundibari police station were found hunting bats.

“All three have been arrested. Also, the state forest department is registering a case against them for killing bats,” said a police officer.

Two videos recorded by some residents helped in their identification, the officer added.

Smuggler nabbed

Ripan Mondal, a resident of Gosaipur village under Hili police station in South Dinajpur, was nabbed by BSF personnel at the Chakgopal border outpost on Saturday evening.

Sources said Mondal was clandestinely carrying some contraband items in his e-rickshaw through Jayantipur and had plans to smuggle those to Bangladesh. A total of 966 ampoules of Buprenorphine injection and 10 kilos of rice were recovered from his vehicle.
