At least 65 people fell sick after having prasad at a religious function in Cooch Behar on Thursday night.
They are under treatment in two hospitals. The district administration has sent a team to Dauaguri village in Mathabhanga subdivision for inspection and suspects it to be a case of food poisoning.
Sources said a “kirtan” had been organised at Dauaguri on Thursday.
“Khichri” and “chira (poha)" were served to the devotees around 9pm. As they had the food, many started complaining of abdomen pain and nausea. Later at night, some even had dysentery and vomiting.
Till Friday morning, 27 were admitted to the subdivisional hospital in Mathabhanga, while 38 are under treatment at the block health centre in Ghoksadanga.
An official said a team was sent to the village to find out what caused the illness.
