Sources said Sujoy, a resident of Gidalpara in Kranti block, was supposed to get married in the middle of May. On Sunday, the duo were on their way to visit some relatives to invite them to the wedding.

“They were heading towards Odlabari through the Apalchand forest area. As they reached Kailashpur More, the two-wheeler collided head-on with a car,” police sources said.

Both fell on the side of the road following the crash. A team from the Kranti police outpost rushed to the spot and took them to the primary health centre in Odlabari where doctors pronounced Sanjoy dead.

Sujoy, who was rushed to a private nursing home in Siliguri, succumbed to his injuries.

“It is an unfortunate incident. Sujoy’s family was making all the arrangements for his wedding. We are standing in support of the bereaved families,” said Mintu Roy, a local panchayat member.

The police have sent the bodies to Jalpaiguri for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation initiated.

Unconscious

Swapna Shah, 71, was found lying unconscious in a house on Kali Prasad Roy Lane in Calcutta on Saturday. She was brought to MR Bangur Hospital, where she was declared dead.
