Calcutta, March 22: Calcutta police have started a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy against Trinamul Rajya Sabha member K.D. Singh.
The case was registered on Thursday, a day before Calcutta High Court delivered the verdict that handed over the Narada probe to the CBI.
Mathew Samuel, who conducted the Narada sting operation, was once associated with Tehelka, on whose board was Singh. Sources claimed that Samuel, in a reply to the CBI last week, had made some statements concerning Singh. The claim could not be verified by this newspaper.
Additional commissioner Vishal Garg confirmed that a case had been drawn against Singh and the other directors of the Alchemist with Bowbazar police station on March 16.
Sources said the case had been taken over by the special investigation team at Lalbazar that is assigned to investigate complaints against financial scams.
The charges, if proved, could lead to a maximum imprisonment of three years.
