The CBI on Friday sought details of Anubrata Mondal’s health condition from senior officials of SSKM Hospital, where the Trinamul leader has been admitted since Wednesday following complaints of shortness of breath and other ailments.

Sources in the hospital said the central agency wanted to know the exact composition of the team of doctors from SSKM Hospital who were on the medical board that had been constituted for Mondal's treatment.

Officers from the CBI also wanted to know the nature of exact ailments and what was Mondal’s condition of health almost two days since he has been admitted to the Woodburn ward of the hospital, which is usually meant for VIP patients.

The CBI has learnt a seven member-team of doctors has been set up for Mondal’s treatment as he lies admitted in cabin number twelve-and-a-half of the Woodburn ward. This particular cabin is usually kept reserved for visiting dignitaries, heads of state, chief ministers, Prime Minister and the President, officers have gathered.

Hospital sources said senior officials in the administration informed the CBI that Mondal needed treatment for his heart ailment along with several others and even though he has shown signs of stabilising, the patient was not yet fit to be released. Doctors have recommended several other tests including that for chest infection and fluctuating levels of oxygen saturation of the blood. Some of the results were yet to reach, the hospital reportedly informed the investigating agency.

“We are open to any further questions from the agency,” said a senior doctor overseeing the hospital's administration. “We have nothing to hide.”

The CBI had summoned the Trinamul’s Birbhum district president on April 6 for a round of questioning in connection with its ongoing probe in the multi-crore cattle smuggling case when Mondal had to be rushed to SSKM Hospital while on his way to face the interrogators.

On Friday, sources said the leader complained of fractured sleep at night.
