The CBI on Monday filed a third supplementary chargesheet in the cattle smuggling case in which the agency named Trinamul Birbhum chief Anubrata Mondal’s bodyguard Saigal Hossain, cattle trader Abdul Latif and Trinamul absconding youth leader Vinay Mishra's brother Vikas Mishra.
The chargesheet was submitted before the special court of the investigating agency in Asansol.
Both Saigal and Vikas are in judicial custody. Abdul Latif is absconding. Vikas was initially arrested by the CBI in the coal smuggling case, which is also being probed by the central agency since March 2021. Later, he was tagged in the cattle case after the CBI reportedly found his involvement in it.
The incident comes on a day Mondal was summoned by the CBI, which has been probing the cattle smuggling case since 2020, for interrogation at its headquarters in Calcutta.
However, the Trinamul strongman of Birbhum did not turn up before the CBI and returned to his Bolpur residence from Calcutta after a health check-up at the SSKM.The CBI has also filed several documents of accumulative assets of Saigal and his relatives worth Rs 4.1 crore before the court on Monday, as well as several land sale deeds in which the names of Saigal and his relatives were found.
Earlier, in its first charge-sheet, the CBI had named BSF commandant Satish Kumar. In the second chargesheet, it named Enamul Haque, who is the alleged kingpin of cattle smuggling. Both are now out on bail.
