The CBI is in search of at least two more persons who accompanied Riton Sheikh, a toto driver who had allegedly carried petrol in plastic jars to Bogtui on the night of carnage on March 21.

Sources said one of the accused is a nephew of Lalon Sheikh, who is considered the prime conspirator in the Bogtui carnage case, and the other is a resident of a nearby village. He is also a relative of Lalon. “The CCTV footage of the petrol pump suggests that there were two persons who accompanied Riton. We are in search of the duo,” said a source in CBI.

The CBI had arrested Riton on Thursday.

Nine persons, including seven women and child, were killed at Bogtui near Rampurhat in Birbhum district on March 21, which followed the killing of Trinamul deputy chief of Barshal gram panchayat Bhadu Sheikh.

The CBI is now probing the two cases simultaneously following orders from Calcutta High Court.

The agency on Friday produced five arrested persons, including the four picked up from Mumbai, in the Rampurhat court. The court sent them to 14 days of judicial custody. One of the arrested persons is the father-in-law of Lalon, who was among the five who were produced in the court.
