A tiger’s 100km transboundary trek between Sikkim and Bhutan has been recorded in the camera for the first time.

Forest officials have spotted the same tiger in Sikkim’s Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuary and Bhutan’s Samtse district earlier this year.

Sources said the findings emerged at an international workshop on countering wildlife trafficking held in Bhutan between June 11 and 13.

At the workshop, Sikkim and Bhutanese forest officers agreed to share camera trap images for a comparative analysis. “One of the tiger’s distinctive stripe patterns matched those from Sikkim and Bhutan,” said a source.

The camera trap images of the tiger at Pangolakha were taken in February while those at Samtse were taken in April. The two areas are separated by 100km.
