The BSF in north Bengal have recovered over 80 buffaloes from two container trucks in Fulbari, located on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri, during the past 24 hours. Seven persons have been arrested in this connection.

The cattle, BSF sources said, were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

On Monday, troops of 15th and 176th battalion of the force intercepted a container truck — bearing a registration number of Nagaland — on NH27 near the toll plaza in Fulbari. As they searched the vehicle, they found 40 buffaloes. The driver, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, and the helper, who is from Assam, failed to produce any document to prove that they are carrying the cattle in a legal manner. The BSF then arrested the duo. There were some others in the truck who managed to escape.

On Sunday afternoon, troops of the 176th battalion of the BSF had intercepted another truck — bearing the number plate of Uttar Pradesh — at the same spot. Altogether, 41 buffaloes were found in the truck. Five persons, including the driver, were apprehended.

Later, the BSF handed over the trucks, the seized cattle, and the seven arrested persons to New Jalpaiguri police station.
