Acropolis Mall that has remained shut since a fire at the mall on June 14, is still under repairs and an inspection by the fire services directorate was conducted last week, mall officials and a senior officer of the directorate said on Tuesday.

There was still no word on Tuesday about when the mall would reopen.

A joint inspection was conducted last week, said a fire services directorate officer.

“We conducted a joint inspection (with the Acropolis authorities) last week. A report based on the findings of that inspection will be placed before me soon. I will go through the report and, if required, suggest some more measures,” said Jag Mohan, director general of the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services.

“Once the mall authorities implement these measures, there will be another round of inspection. Once we are satisfied with all measures, we will give them the green signal,” he added.

The Acropolis building has two sections. One section, which is five-storeys tall, houses a mall. The other section, with 21 storeys, has as many as 99 offices and a pub on the terrace.

The section with the offices and the pub, which remained unaffected in the fire, was thrown open late last month.

Fire brigade officers had said that the section with the offices and the pub had a separate electrical connection than the mall.

A fire broke out on the mall’s third floor on June 14 afternoon. A bookstore was gutted in the fire.

“We are yet to carry out repairs in the affected portion because we are awaiting the nod from the fire brigade. That is an isolated portion on the floor and should not affect the reopening of the mall. We are almost done with painting in the rest of the mall. The lights in the damaged portions have been replaced. The repairs are almost done,” said an official of the mall.

The manager of the store of a clothing retailer said that the staff from the stores have been entering the mall throughout the period when it has remained closed to check on the store’s status.

“Last week, some new stocks arrived in our store. I went to the store to receive the stock. We are hoping that the mall will reopen soon,” said the manager of the store on the first floor, which was unaffected by the fire.
