The city received multiple spells of rain in between sunny spells and high humidity. The weather is typical of the monsoon, the Met office has said. The monsoon entered the city on June 12 and has since made its presence felt. The next few days are expected to be wet. But the sun will be out and when it does, the high moisture content in the atmosphere is likely to make things uncomfortable, the Met office has said.
On Saturday, the Met office recorded around 25mm of rain in Alipore till 8.30pm.
The monsoon trough spanning over the western border to Bengal and a circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining areas are strengthening the moisture-laden southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, the Met office has said.
The monsoon went through a lean phase after its entry to Calcutta. “But the onset this time has been marked by a prolonged wet spell. The monsoon came riding a strong low-pressure over the Bay. The monsoon currents are still reasonably strong,” a Met official said.
