Two armed guards spotted Biswajit Bose, 35, and one of his associates, Patla, entering the Stone India Ltd premises at 19 Taratala Road, police said. They asked the duo to leave.

“But Biswajit and Patla tried to scare away the guards. One of the guards opened fire,” said an officer of Taratala police station.

Bose suffered the fatal bullet wound.

A case for murder and another for tresspassing have been registered.

“We are examining the guards and trying to understand the sequence of events. No one has yet been arrested,” said an officer at Lalbazar.
