St Xavier’s College will not conduct any entrance test for its undergraduate courses this year. Students will be admitted based on marks obtained in the Class XII board exams.

The Park Street college, an autonomous institution, on Tuesday announced undergraduate admission details for the 2020-21 academic session.

Last year, the college had conducted admission tests for management studies, multimedia and mass communication and videography courses.

The college will admit students to 15 undergraduate courses, including English, economics, commerce, statistics, physics, chemistry, sociology and microbiology.

The college started accepting online applications for all courses from Tuesday and it will continue till August 30. Application forms and all admission-related details are available on the college website.

The Jesuit-run college is the first institution in the city that has started the process of undergraduate admissions.

In order to apply for any course, a student must obtain 60 per cent in aggregate in the best of four subjects, including the one in which the admission is being sought. A minimum 45 per cent is required in each of the four subjects.

The final selection will be done based on the indexed marks to be calculated separately for each course.

The index marks to be obtained by each of the selected students will be mentioned against their names on the merit list.

For English, a student must have 60 per cent marks in the aggregate of four subjects, including English.

For economics, a student must have 60 per cent marks in the aggregate of four subjects, including mathematics.

The calculation of the index marks will be different for every course and depend on the decision of the teachers of the respective departments, Father Dominic Savio, the principal, said.

To calculate the index marks of a student seeking admission to management studies, 50 per cent weightage will be given on the performance in the Class XII board exams, 25 per cent weightage on mathematics and 25 per cent on English.

The college has said how the aggregate calculation needs to be done. For example, for BSc statistics, a student will have to study statistics and three other elective subjects, a teacher said.

A student will be eligible to apply in statistics, if she/he has a minimum of 45 per cent marks in all the four subjects and the aggregate of the four subjects is minimum 60 per cent.

St Xavier’s University will announce its undergraduate admission details on Wednesday.

The ISC council and the CBSE have announced the Class XII board exam results. The state Higher Secondary board will declare the results on Friday.

Officials of Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous), Narendrapur, and Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira in Belur said they had started the process of preparing the admission criteria.

Teachers are finalising the admission details, including the date of receiving online applications, eligibility criteria and whether entrance tests will be held, officials at the two institutions said.

The admission process in Calcutta University’s colleges will start once the government issues the admission guidelines, a university official said.
