Around 12 trees were uprooted on the sprawling 57-acre garden surrounding the Victoria Memorial Hall. One of the trees fell on a fibreglass rain shed that leads to the office.
The statues liberally spread across the garden have survived. The Angel of Victory, the 16ft-tall weather vane and lightning arrester atop the monument’s dome, has weathered Amphan. “We have 10 to 12 uprooted trees. And a shattered rainshed. Otherwise there has been no damage,” said curator Jayanta Sengupta.
