South Point School has opened its gates for a Covid vaccination camp for all starting Saturday. Being held in association with Apollo Clinic, it will operate from its Mandeville Gardens premises in Ballygunge, 9pm to 5pm daily, except Sunday.
“We are trying to do good for society so we decided not to restrict this drive only to our staff members, eligible students and alumni. Vaccination is the only way out of this pandemic and with the second doses of a lot of people becoming due, everyone needs to be given a chance to vaccinate oneself in a safe environment,” said Krishna Damani, trustee, South Point Education Society.
He pointed to hesitancy in people’s minds about visiting hospitals amid the pandemic. “Here they will feel comfortable as it is not a medical establishment.”
The school courtyard will be used as registration and waiting space while the air-conditioned computer laboratory will serve as a vaccination room. The vaccinated will wait for a stipulated period under medical observation in the ground floor classrooms and hall, and leave by a different gate.
The school had earlier run a two-day camp for teachers. “This will be an on-going camp. We have informed parents of our students and have received good responses,” he said.
Both first and second doses of Covishield will be administered at Rs 780. The booking can be done with Apollo on BookMyShow as well as through a chatbot by messaging “Hi” on Whatsapp to 74396 05026. Walk-ins will also be allowed. About 300 slots are on offer a day and the number may be increased on demand.
The school, through its alumni association, has also been running an RT-PCR swab collection centre for Covid screening since May. “For that, a third gate is used, with a segregated space. That facility runs through the week, from 9.30am to 2.30pm,” Damani said.
