With the single containment zone in New Town being a labour camp, a decision was taken in NKDA’s Covid war room meeting on Monday to organise health check-up camps for labourers of the township.
A labour camp in Action Area 2 of ITD Cementation, which works for Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, has reported about 35 Covid-positive cases. “Other than testing for blood pressure, blood sugar, SpO2 and thermal screening, we decided to check for loss of olfactory sense with coffee beans. This is 27 times more frequent than the other symptoms,” said NKDA chairman Debashis Sen.
The camp was conducted at Rabindra Tirtha by doctors from SP Diagnostics. Fifty labourers were screened, face masks were distributed and hand sanitiser bottles were handed out free. Another camp will be held on Monday.
