The state health department has asked six private laboratories, including those of some hospitals, conducting Covid-19 tests, to send 10 samples that have tested positive every day for cross-verification.
The laboratories include Dr Lal Path Laboratories, Peerless Hospital, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Medinova Diagnostic Services Limited, Metropolis Healthcare Limited and Medica Superspecialty Hospital.
The health department will send the positive samples to the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED), which is a unit of the Indian Council of Medical Research, for re-confirmation.
State health department officials met representatives of the six laboratories on Monday and conveyed the decision to them. The samples will have to be selected randomly from a lot that has tested positive. If the laboratories want, they can send the samples directly to NICED for tests.
