An assistant sub-inspector of Calcutta police has tested positive for Covid-19.
Police sources said the officer had been off duty for a prolonged illness and had other medical complications too.
Joint commissioner (headquarters) Subhankar Sinha Sarkar said the officer was posted in a north Calcutta police station.
According to police sources, the officer in his 50s had not joined duty over the past six months and had been suffering from renal complications. Because of his health, he has had to visit hospitals several times in recent past, sources said.
At least two more Calcutta police personnel have reported possible symptoms of coronavirus infection. One of them has been admitted to hospital and another has been sent to home quarantine.
All 80 police stations across Calcutta have been provided with thermal guns to check the body temperature of the on-duty officers.
