Calcutta High Court has ordered private schools in Bengal, including those run by the Church, to waive 20 per cent of their tuition fees between April 2020 and a month after the schools resume physical classes.
The schools have been barred from charging for facilities such as labs, sports and craft that students are not using during the pandemic.
They can charge session fees but at 20 per cent less. Parents will have to pay the discounted fees by December 8. Many schools said they would appeal the high court order.
The order will not apply to schools whose average monthly fees, calculated on an annual basis for April 2020-March 2021, are less than Rs 800.
