A school in central Calcutta responded to the crisis of blood in the city during the pandemic and organised a blood donation camp on Sunday.

More than 50 people turned up at Chowringhee High School to donate blood through the morning and afternoon. Among them were former students, parents of current students and people in and around Chowringhee Lane, where the school is located.

A part of the blood collected will go to The Thalassaemia Society of India.

“We have been reading about the scarcity of blood and wanted to do something about it. We know that the Society is also facing a crisis,” said Perminder Dasani, the administrator of the school.

Every year the school organises two blood donation camps, in April and September.

“We could not organise a camp in April because of the lockdown but arranged for 17 people who donated blood for the children who have thalassaemia,” said Dasani.
