The sky was overcast throughout Sunday and the city received uniform rain in the first half under the impact of a cyclonic circulation off the Andhra coast that led to the formation of a low-pressure area over coastal Bengal.

The conditions are likely to prevail over the next 48 hours, the Met office said.

The low-pressure area has formed over the Bengal-Odisha border. Under its influence, parts of East and West Midnapore could get heavy rain. Calcutta is set to get light to moderate rain. “Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off north Andhra and south Odisha coasts, a low-pressure area has formed over north-west Bay of Bengal off Odisha and Gangetic Bengal coats,” said a Met update.

“The low-pressure area will keep the maximum temperature in check. Over the next few days, it is expected to be in the range of 33 and 35 degrees,” said G.K. Das, the director of the India Meteorological Department, Calcutta.
