BJP leader Mukul Roy was on Friday questioned by a Calcutta police team at his New Delhi residence in connection with a cash-recovery case.

The questioning came a day after Delhi High Court asked Roy to co-operate with Calcutta police in the probe. The case relates to unaccounted cash seized from a businessman arrested in Calcutta’s Burrabazar in July last year.

Police sources said the Calcutta cops reached Roy’s 181 South Avenue residence around 11am on Friday and spent two hours quizzing him. “The time of our visit had been conveyed in advance,” said

a police source. Neither Roy nor the Calcutta officers disclosed the details of the questioning.

The police had seized Rs 80 lakh from Kalyan Ray Barman, the businessman, and the case was registered against him at Burrabazar police station after he failed to account for the cash.

According to the police, Roy’s name cropped up during the interrogation of Barman, a resident of Shibpur in Howrah.

In Calcutta, officers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned artist Suvaprasanna for over four hours on Friday in connection with the Saradha scam.

Suvaprasanna, sources said, was quizzed about the sale of a television channel — in which he held a stake — to Saradha chairman Sudipta Sen. Sen has been behind bars since March 2013.

According to ED officials, Sen had acquired the channel for Rs 6 crore. Even after the transaction was over, the painter, who had earlier sold his shares to Sen, continued to remain on the board of directors of the channel.

The ED and the CBI have questioned Suvaprasanna in the past too.
