Calcutta High Court on Wednesday issued an interim order allowing the state CID to continue with its probe into a person’s death after being allegedly hit by a car in BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy on May 4.

But Justice Rajasekhar Mantha restrained the CID from taking any coercive measure against any person, including CRPF jawans who were part of Adhikari’s security detail when the alleged incident had taken place at Chandipur in East Midnapore district.

Bhairabpur resident Israfil Khan died in the alleged accident that occurred between 9pm and 10pm on May 4.

The interim order was issued on a petition that was moved on Wednesday on behalf of the BJP state unit, which sought a CBI probe into the death of Khan.

Justice Mantha refused to hand over the probe from the state agency to the CBI for the time being and said the CID should continue with its probe.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently out on bail.
