Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the Bengal administration to allow the leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, to go to Netai for an hour on January 7, which is observed as Netai Day.

On January 7, 2011, armed goons allegedly backed by the CPM, had killed at least nine persons in West Midnapore's Netai.

The Trinamul Congress-backed Netai Shahid Smritiraksha Samiti observes the day by garlanding the mausoleum built in memory of the martyrs. This year, Adhikari moved the court and alleged that the administration was not allowing him to attend the January 7 programme.

Justice Jay Sengupta asked the Netai Shahid Smritiraksha Samiti to wind up its programme by 4.30pm and allowed Adhikari to hold his event from 5pm to 6pm.
