Calcutta Book Fair will be inaugurated on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday as announced earlier.

Sources in Nabanna said chief minister Mamata Banerjee decided to advance the inauguration by a day because Sarawasti Puja is on January 29 (Wednesday).

Mamata will inaugurate the fair in the presence of Kudashev Nikolay Rishatovich, Russia’s ambassador to India, and Aleksei Idamkin, Russia’s consul-general in Calcutta, along with a host of authors from Russia, the theme country of the fair this year.

Officials of the Publishers and Booksellers Guild, the organiser of the fair, said four books translated from Russian to Bengali would be launched at the fair.

“On January 30, Vadim Polonsky will deliver the Ashok Sarkar Memorial Lecture,” said Sudhangshu Sekhar Dey, the general secretary of the fair. “We will celebrate Bangladesh Day on February 9 and Children’s Day on February 2.”
