Mayor Firhad Hakim on Monday told cable operators that he would not attend their programmes from next year if they did not remove the dead overhead cables.
Hakim said at a meeting that he was making a “last” request to the operators to remove the dead cables, the ones that are no longer in use. “There is a jungle of overhead cables in the city. Not only live cables, even dead ones have been hanging for years. They are spoiling the image of the city,” the mayor said.
“If you (the operators) do not remove the dead cables this year, I will not come to your programmes from next year.”
The overhead cables are a threat to commuters.
