A 16-year-old boy who had suffered a bullet injury on Friday evening when miscreants opened fire at a police team during a raid in Malda died in hospital on Saturday.
Two teams from Kaliachak police station had reached Baliaganga after receiving information about narcotic dealers assembling there. When they apprehended two dealers, one of them opened fire at the police team.
Rajib Sheikh, a bystander, was hit by a bullet in the pelvic region. He collapsed on the spot and was rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
The police arrested Asmaul Sheikh, who had fired the gunshots. A 7mm pistol and 400 grams of brown sugar were seized from him.
Sahabuddin Sheikh, the other narcotic dealer, escaped. The police are conducting raids to arrest him.
“The boy who had suffered a bullet injury, died today. The additional superintendent of police (rural) is probing the incident. A murder case has been registered against the accused person who had fired yesterday,” said Amitabha Maiti, the Malda police chief.
Fake call centre cuffs
Siliguri metropolitan police busted an illegal call centre and an online friendship racket at Ashrampara in Siliguri on Friday.
“Sourav Paul, the prime accused, has been arrested with 38 others from a rented accommodation,” said a police officer.
