A butterfly garden was opened at the biodiversity park in Alipurduar district’s Madarihat on Saturday.

Surendra Kumar Meena, the district magistrate, inaugurated the garden which consists of butterfly host plants as well as nectar-bearing plants. A wide variety of butterflies such as grey pansy, plain tiger and peacock pansy can be seen flitting across the garden and the park area.

Experts said the Dooars was home to a variety of butterfly species which include papilionidae, lycaenidae and nymphalidae.
