Mamata Banerjee on Monday lashed out at the alleged witch-hunt against her family by central investigation agencies and suggested that such “political vendetta” wouldn’t be over till the BJP government in Delhi was ousted.

The Bengal chief minister was addressing a conference of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (Credai) here when she brought up the issue for the third time in 14 days.

“Sometimes, some people may disturb you (those in the audience) also, that also we know. It is not only you, all businessmen are being harassed by some agencies, so many times,” Mamata said in her brief speech in English.

“Even my family also, though I have not taken one paisa, one cup of tea from anybody ever in my life,” she added.

Mamata and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee had on countless occasions in the recent past ranted publicly against the central probe agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI for allegedly trying to target them in order to weaken the Trinamul Congress dispensation in Bengal.

But the Trinamul chairperson’s recent attacks on the alleged agency raj of the BJP-led Centre came since the ED searched various offices of Leaps and Bounds Private Limited in Calcutta on August 21 and 22.

The searches began a day after Trinamul national general secretary Abhishek had returned to India after a personal visit to the US. The ED claimed it had collected “digital evidence” from computers, laptops and hard disks.

An official press release from the ED later said the raided company was “used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees” and named Abhishek as the firm’s CEO.

“But it is a political vendetta. You don’t care for that. If anything happens, you take care for the lawyer, and you take care for the judiciary,” said the Trinamul chief on Monday.

“I know, these case(s) never will be closed until and unless the vendetta is (over),” she added.

The names of Abhishek’s parents — Mamata’s brother and sister-in-law — feature as directors of Leaps and Bounds Private Limited. The company has alleged links with Sujay Krishna Bhadra alias Kalighater Kaku who was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in appointment at state-aided schools.

“I don’t understand, sometimes if you purchase something, like cups and dishes, can ED investigate the matter?” asked Mamata.

“A section of the media has been influenced by those who instruct them to defame Bengal. But I don’t malign others, because I believe in fighting politically,” she added.
