The BSF intercepted three Bangladeshis, including a minor, in Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday night while they were trying to infiltrate India through the international border.

Sources said BSF personnel posted at the Daikhata border outpost nabbed the trio around 10.15pm. The trio are Prasan Barman, Yashodarani Barman and Dipu Charan Barman, all from Matigara village in Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh.

Four cellphones, 5,000 Bangladeshi Taka and an ATM card were seized from the three. Later, the BSF convened a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officers and handed over the trio to them so that they could be sent back to their homes.

Ever since the downfall of the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh, the BSF has been on high alert as attempts were made by Bangladeshi residents, especially Hindus, to enter India.

In the past few days, the BSF stalled at least three such attempts in north Bengal when hundreds of Bangladeshis reached the unfenced border, seeking refuge in India.
