Two Bangladeshi nationals were intercepted by the BSF in north Bengal in the past 24 hours for allegedly infiltrating India without papers on Saturday.
Sources said that the troops of 132 battalion of the BSF posted in Goalgach border outpost in North Dinajpur district apprehended Mohammad Mamun, a 27-year-old from Sylhet district of the neighbouring country, as he illegally crossed the border.
Inquiries revealed he had plans to visit Ajmer. He was later handed over to Chopra police station.
In another incident, the personnel of the 98th battalion of the force posted in Gandak order outpost in Cooch Behar district held Nusrat Marzia, a 20-year-old transgender
from Bogra district of Bangladesh.
Marzia had boarded a bus that was coming from Dhaprahat to Changrabandha at Bangla More near 124 Lothamari village.
A cell phone and some Indian currency were found on Marzia who illegally entered India during the festive season. Later, Marzia was handed over to Mekhliganj police.
The BSF also conducted anti-smuggling drives in north Bengal and seized contraband items such as cattle and cough syrup, worth Rs 1.44 lakh.
Hospital QR code
South Dinajpur district administration will introduce registration of patients intending to visit outpatient departments in Balurghat district hospital for treatment, through QR code.
“The QR code would be widely publicised across the district. A person can scan the code in his or her cell phone, key in relevant details like name, age and Aadhaar number to register for an appointment at the OPDs of the district hospital. After registration, a patient can visit the hospital within seven days to get examined by a doctor,” said district magistrate Bijin Krishna.
So far, registration has been done manually at the hospital.
“The old offline process will exist for those who don’t use smartphones. The new system will be free but in the old system, Rs 2 is required for an OPD ticket,” said a source.
