An Indian woman from North Dinajpur district was nabbed by the BSF at the India-Bangladesh border on Thursday afternoon with around 6.5 lakh Bangladeshi taka.
Sources said the woman from Karandighi had been to Bangladesh. On Thursday afternoon, as she was entering India through the integrated check post at Hili in South Dinajpur district, troops of the 151st battalion of the BSF found that she was carrying the Bangladeshi currency in her luggage.
During interrogation, she revealed she had gone to the neighbouring country on November 6 last year on a valid passport through Hili to meet her relatives. While returning, she brought the Bangladeshi taka and wanted to hand the money over to her relatives in India.
As she had not converted the Bangladeshi taka to either Indian currency or USD, she was handed over to Hili police with the seized taka.
Yaba tablets
In Cooch Behar, troops of the 138th battalion of the BSF under the Guwahati Frontier on Thursday nabbed an alleged smuggler from Altadanga village near the Bangladesh border with 777 Yaba tablets (a stimulant with methamphetamine and caffeine) worth Rs 3.88 lakh on him.
In two more raids, troops of the 157th and 14th battalions recovered 230 bottles of cough syrup and 2,303 kg of sugar, respectively, in Cooch Behar. The cost of the items is Rs 1.88 lakh and they were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
