BSF arrests two Bangladeshi nationals in Cooch Behar for alleged illegal entry

The BSF intercepted two Bangladeshi nationals in Cooch Behar on Monday, one for alleged illegal entry and the other for helping the former.

Sources said troops of 151st battalion of the BSF posted at the integrated check post at Changrabandha, a land port in Cooch Behar district on the Bangladesh border, apprehended Md Rony Hasan Rajon, 22, of Bogra district of Bangladesh when he entered India hiding under cotton rags in the truck.

Arif Sheikh, the truck driver who is also from the same district in the neighbouring country, was also nabbed for allegedly helping Rony enter India illegally in his vehicle.

Some Indian and Bangladeshi currencies were recovered from both Rony and Arif.

Later, both of them were then handed over to Mekhliganj police station with the truck.

'Smuggler' arrested

The BSF troops posted in South Dinajpur nabbed Mostaque Hussain, a resident of Danipada village under Gangarampur police station of the district on Monday evening. Mostaque was carrying 75 bottles of cough syrup. He allegedly planned to smuggle those to Bangladesh. Later, Mostaque was handed over to the police.

The BSF also conducted raids in different bordering areas under the north Bengal frontier on Monday and Tuesday and seized various contraband items worth Rs 7.35 lakh.

They were also supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh, BSF sources said.

Leopard attack

Gorchand Karjee, a resident of Karjipara village under Falakata block of Alipurduar district, got injured in a leopard attack on Tuesday morning.

Sources said that the villager had taken his cattle to a local stream for grazing when the leopard suddenly pounced on him from a bamboo plantation.

As it attacked Karjee and tried to bite him, the villager raised an alert, prompting his neighbours to rush to the spot for help.

Seeing the crowd, the leopard fled the spot.

The villager is currently being treated for his injuries at the Birpara state general hospital.
