The Border Security Force (BSF) has reiterated its request to the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) to step up efforts to prevent infiltration attempts into India in the wake of the evolving political situation in Bangladesh.

The BSF also urged the BGB to ensure the protection of minority communities in Bangladesh.

Since August 12, the BSF and the BGB have held at least 722 meetings at various levels to discuss these issues. In a coordinated effort, both forces have conducted 1,367 joint patrols along vulnerable border areas under the BSF’s Eastern Command to enhance security and stability.

Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh, the BSF — under the guidance of India’s home ministry — has focused on strengthening collaboration with the BGB through real-time information sharing and more frequent interactions.

On Thursday, senior officials from the BSF’s Eastern Command held a review meeting at the border, alongside officials from the Land Port Authorities of India. The meeting, chaired by Ravi Gandhi, ADG of the BSF’s Eastern Command, provided crucial directives to all stakeholders regarding border security.

“These meetings are of great significance as we have urged the BGB to prevent Bangladeshi nationals from attempting to infiltrate Indian territory. The BGB has assured us that they are taking all necessary steps to protect Indian citizens and minority communities in Bangladesh,” a BSF official said.
