The Border Security Force (BSF) posted at the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur conducted a joint raid with officials of Customs and seized drugs worth Rs 12 crore.
Sources said around 2.15pm on Thursday, troops of the 61st and 151st battalions of the BSF posted at Hili acted on source information and carried out a search in a truck with Customs. The truck was parked in the parking area near the Hili integrated check post.
They found a black plastic carry bag inside the driver’s cabin. Fifty small packets of Yaba (a stimulant containing methamphetamine and caffeine) tablets and 22 smaller packets of heroin were found.
“Altogether, 9,800 pieces of tablets and over 2kg of heroin were found in the packets. The estimated cost is around Rs 12 crore. Those were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh,” said a source.
Later, the seized items and the truck were handed over to the Hili police station.
As the truck was with Customs, there was no one with the vehicle. So far, no one has been arrested.
Investigations revealed that both the truck owner and driver are from villages under Hili police station, a BSF source said.
"We have informed this to the police," the source said.
