The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two persons while they were illegally trying to cross the international boundary in South Dinajpur on Sunday.
Troops of 164 battalion of the BSF intercepted a Bangladeshi youth while he was trying to cross the international boundary at the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur’s Dakuhara on Sunday.
Ranjit Thiti, who hails from Naogaon district of the neighbouring country, has been handed over to Tapan police station of the district.
In another incident, troops of 137 battalion of the force apprehended Minal Chandra Rai, a resident of Bangalore, while he was trying to enter Bangladesh from India. He has been handed over to the Hilli police station.
The BSF also carried out anti-smuggling drives in different locations under the north Bengal frontier from Saturday to Monday and seized a number of contraband items, including cattle and cough syrups. The cost of the seized items is Rs 3.32 lakh, sources said.
In Malda, a team of Englishbazar police station arrested a woman and seized a firearm from her on Sunday night.
Police said two rounds of live cartridges were also seized from Yasmin Khatun, who is from Gharialchowk area of Kaliachak.
She was intercepted at Women’s College Road of the town.
The police also retrieved improvised firearms and machines used to make such arms from a pond in the Beguntola area of Kaliachak police station on Monday.
