The Border Security Force (BSF) posted at the India-Bangladesh border in north Bengal nabbed three Bangladeshis from a home in North Dinajpur district on Sunday night.
Those apprehended are Mohd Inul of Dinajpur district of Bangladesh, his wife, and another youth, Mijanur Rahman, of the same district. They allegedly planned to illegally cross the international border and enter their homeland.
Sources said around 10.15pm on Sunday, troops of the 91st and 175th battalions of the central security force jointly with a Kaliaganj police team in Lohatara (Murgidiggi) village of the district.
They raided the house of Kailash Roy, where the trio were hiding. Kailash was also intercepted for providing shelter to the trio.
During preliminary investigation, it was found that the trio illegally entered India 12 years back through an unfenced area and were working as daily-rated workers in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This time, they planned to illegally enter Bangladesh
to meet their family members.
The trio and Kailash were handed over to Kaliaganj police.
The BSF conducted anti-smuggling drives in different locations on Sunday
and Monday and seized contraband items, including cattle.
The cost of the seized items, supposed to be smuggled into Bangladesh, was Rs 1.68 lakh, sources said.
