The BSF nabbed three alleged cattle rustlers and seized some cattle near the India-Bangladesh border in Jalpaiguri on Friday.

Sources said that around 5.15pm, troops of the 195th battalion of the central force at the Chaulhati border outpost in Jalpaiguri apprehended the cattle rustlers while they were carrying six cattle in a pick-up van to smuggle those to Bangladesh.

Those arrested were Majibul Haque of Daribas village under Haldibari police station of Cooch Behar, Ashidul Haque of Lankapara village and Mobarak Hussain of Thakurpara village of Jalpaiguri.

During preliminary investigation, it was found that they had received the cattle from Md Alkash, an alleged cattle smuggler from Baruapara of Jalpaiguri, and were supposed to deliver the animals to Md Abu Khyer, a resident of Panchagarh district of Bangladesh.

The cattle, the vehicle, some Indian currency and two cellphones were seized from the trio. Later, the trio were handed over to the Rajganj police station of Jalpaiguri.

Bombs recovered

Malda police recovered 22 crude bombs from Chandpur village of Kaliachak block on Friday.

Sources said that on Friday, a person died and some others got injured in the village while making such bombs. As news spread, a team of Kaliachak police reached the area and launched a search in the village.

While searching the village, they found the bombs that were kept in a secluded area. On Saturday, a team from the CID’s bomb squad went to the area and defused the bombs.
