Border Security Force nabs seven Indians, one Bangladeshi near international border

The Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted seven Indians and a Bangladeshi from the international frontier in north Bengal on Saturday.

All of them have been handed over to police.

Sources said the 91st battalion of the BSF posted at Elendry border outpost in South Dinajpur district had apprehended Shankar Roy, Mujahar Ali and Imran Haque from Chakrashail village around 7.30pm on Saturday.

The trio, all residents of the South Dinajpur district, were moving suspiciously on a motorcycle, said the BSF.

Chakrashail is around 1km away from the outpost.

The BSF seized 193 bottles of cough syrup from the bike. The BSF said the trio had plans to smuggle the items into Bangladesh.

Sujit Chandra Das, a resident of Chittagong district in Bangladesh, was nabbed by the BSF's sixth battalion posted at Arjun border outpost in Cooch Behar around 8.30pm on Saturday. He was moving suspiciously on a bike along with another person.

The biker, who was an Indian, managed to escape. The BSF launched a search and nabbed him along with two of his associates. They are from Jalpaiguri district.

The trio had come to take Das, who had infiltrated into India for a livelihood, from the border. They had plans to hand him to another tout who would help Das in finding a job.

The 61st battalion of the BSF deployed at Bhimpur border outpost in Raiganj sector nabbed Tapas Pal, a 26-year-old youth from South Dinajpur, with his e-rickshaw and seized 50 bottles of cough syrup. He was later handed over to Hili police.

The BSF conducted anti-smuggling drives from November 14 to 19 at different locations in north Bengal and seized cattle and cough syrup.
