The Border Security Force (BSF) posted at the India-Bangladesh border nabbed four Indians with contraband items in two separate incidents on Sunday.
Sources said that around 11.30am on Sunday, troops of the 137th battalion of the BSF at Bulkipara border outpost in South Dinajpur intercepted three persons who were reportedly trying to illegally cross the international border.
Ninety-eight bottles of cough syrup, an e-rickshaw, two cell phones and some cash were recovered from Vijay Barman and Gautam Barman of Chak Shyam village and Ranjeet Mohanta of Ghugudanga village of the same district.
The trio were eventually handed over to the Balurghat police station.
In the second incident on the same day, around 8.40pm, BSF personnel of the 40th battalion posted in Cooch Behar intercepted Manirul Islam, an Indian, who was returning to his village on a bicycle.
During a routine check, the BSF recovered 50 pain relief balms, allegedly meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, and a cell phone from Manirul. Later, he was handed over to Customs offices at Changrabandha.
