Ravi Gandhi, the additional director general of the Eastern Command of BSF posted in Calcutta reached the north Bengal frontier headquarters of the central security force at Kadamtala on the outskirts of Siliguri for a four-day visit on Wednesday.

Gandhi’s visit is significant in the region, which shares borders with Bangladesh, because of the changing situation of the neighbouring country. He is also heading a five-member committee constituted by the Union home ministry to monitor the situation in Bangladesh and the safety of Indians staying there.

After he arrived in Kadamtala, Sooryakant Sharma, the IG of BSF’s NB frontier, gave a detailed presentation on current emerging challenges on the Indo-Bangladesh border and the strategy to deal with them.

Gandhi discussed the operational and administrative matters with them and reviewed the operational preparedness of the frontier. He appreciated the efforts of BSF troops and asked them to be extra alert round the clock at the Indo-Bangla border to thwart any attempt of infiltration and nefarious activities of trans-border miscreants.
