Bones which CID officers suspect are body parts of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who was allegedly murdered in a Rajarhat apartment on May 13, were found in the Bagjola canal in Bhangar, South 24-Parganas, on Sunday morning.

CID officers said the recovery was made based on the statements of Siam Hossain, one of the prime suspects in the murder case who was arrested two days ago after being handed over by the Nepal police.

The bones have been sent for forensic examinations to confirm whether they are human bones. Once confirmed, the bones will undergo DNA tests to ascertain whether they are Anar's body parts.

Siam took the police team to the south-eastern bank of the Bagjola canal at Krishnamati village in Bhangar. The area around the canal had been searched earlier but no body parts were found.

CID sleuths said Siam had shared specific details about the disposing of the body of the MP. Anar's skull is yet to be found.

“The body was hacked into small pieces before disposal. The accused have said they broke the skull, too. But that is yet to be verified,” said a senior officer of the CID.

A senior officer said Anar’s daughter would be called to Calcutta soon and requested to give samples for the DNA tests.

Earlier, based on the information provided by Bangladesh police, the Bengal CID had recovered around 4kg of flesh and hair from the sewage pipe of the Rajarhat apartment where the MP was allegedly killed.

The report of the forensic tests on the samples is still pending.

Till now the Bengal CID has arrested two men, including a butcher named Jihad Hawladar, who was hired for killing and chopping the body into small pieces.

Siam was the second person to have been arrested by the CID.

Senior officers said Siam, 33, was a resident of Burhanuddin in Bhola district of Bangladesh.

CID sleuths said the alleged mastermind of the murder, Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, a US-based Bangladeshi businessman, had involved Siam in the murder plot.

Siam allegedly connected Shahin to Jihad, who the police said was brought to Calcutta from Mumbai at least two months before the murder and kept in an apartment in Chinar Park.

Siam allegedly facilitated Jihad’s stay in the Chinar Park apartment. Both shifted to the Rajarhat apartment (where the MP was allegedly killed) on May 6 and stayed there till May 10.
