“The BJP will approach the court to seek permission for a protest scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) and a continuous sit-in demonstration is planned from August 20 to 23. The chief minister has lost the trust of the common people and we will continue our movement till she resigns,” Majumdar said.

Laying out the details of the programme for the next five days, Majumdar said leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, along with other BJP MLAs, would join the protest on Tuesday, followed by the MPs of the party on Wednesday.

“Representatives of all cells and departments of the BJP will be present at the demonstration on Thursday and we have a Swasthya Bhavan Gherao programme. Finally, the women’s wing of the BJP will lead the protest on Friday,” Majumdar added.

Majumdar, who is a also a junior Union minister, underscored that the Union home ministry under Amit Shah had sought reports on law and order in every two hours from all states and union territories in viuew of the protests against the junior doctor’s rape and murder.

The CPM on Sunday raised several questions regarding the investigation and the allegation that there were deliberate attempts to tamper with the evidence so that the perpetrators could be saved.

“Why did the RG Kar administration claim it was a case of suicide before the victim’s parents? Who is the influential doctor from north Bengal who was informed of the incident even before police and the parents?” CPM state secretary Md. Salim asked.

The CPM questioned the real intentions behind the CBI’s investigation, with Salim pointing out that despite numerous reports “exposing corruption” in the public healthcare system, the agency had yet to summon anyone.

Targetting Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal, the senior CPM leader said: “Is Vineet Goyal, who allegedly sabotaged the Kamduni investigation, being given charge again to repeat his actions?”

“Mamata Banerjee is not only the chief minister but also the in-charge of the health and home departments. It is an utter failure and she should take the responsibility of this failure and resign immediately,” he added.
