Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar and the party’s chief whip in the Assembly Manoj Tigga called on Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the “crumbling law and order” in Bengal.

Majumdar said he handed over a report on the Bogtui killings, prepared by a BJP fact-finding team.

“We met Amit Shahji on two issues… I submitted the report to him and Manoj Tigga appraised him about the recent ruckus inside the Assembly,” Majumdar told the media.

He said Shah heard them out and said the BJP would stand by its MLAs, MPs and party workers. “He (Shah) said our fight will continue democratically as long as we don’t succeed in overthrowing this government (of Trinamul) which has murdered democracy,” Majumdar said.

The report says the “mafia,” in connivance with “police and political leadership”, is ruling Bengal and accuses Birbhum Trinamul chief Anubrata Mondal of a hand in the Bogtui carnage, and urges central intervention in Bengal.

Tigga gave Shah an “elaborate description” on the scuffle between BJP and Trinamul MLAs inside the Assembly on Monday, where several BJP MLAs, including Tigga, were hurt, Majumdar said.

“Our leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and chief whip Tigga requested two hours of discussion (on the Bogtui issue) ... They demanded a statement from the chief minister who is also the state’s home minister. But they were attacked by Trinamul MLAs who are actually goons,” he said.

Hate speech complaint

Trinamul has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP’s Asansol Lok Sabha nominee Agnimitra Paul for a hate speech on March 19.

The EC banning Trinamul MLA Narendranath Chakraborty from campaigning for seven days after BJP lodged a complaint against him based on a video clip that showed him asking his followers to threaten BJP supporters.
