BJP workers allegedly captured a Trinamul office near here on Sunday night by putting up party flags and a new lock, the first such move by the saffron camp in Birbum where the ruling party is led by strongman Anubrata Mondal.
Trinamul retained both the Bolpur and Birbhum Lok Sabha seats.
Villagers said the Trinamul office at Senkapur village under Raipur-Supur gram panchayat had been opened four years ago.
In the Lok Sabha polls, though Trinamul candidate Asit Mal won by a margin of 1,06,402 votes, the BJP led by 24 votes at Senkapur.
According to villagers, a group of around 50 BJP workers came in front of the Trinamul office around 9pm shouting slogans and took off Trinamul flags. There was a lock at the gate of the office which was replaced by a new one.
Nikhil Basak, the Trinamul anchal committee president in Raipur-Supur gram panchayat area, said: “I have informed our senior leaders about the incident. We will take legal action.”
BJP leaders, however, said it was not the BJP’s culture to capture the office of Trinamul.
“We don’t follow the Trinamul way of capturing offices of rival parties. A group of youths who recently joined the BJP from Trinamul captured the office and put up BJP flags there,” said Dilip Ghosh, BJP’s district vice president in Bolpur.
