Binay Tamang, a well-known face in Darjeeling politics, on Wednesday invited Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge to the hills.

In the invitation letters, Tamang said Congress Prime Ministers had done a lot for the hills.

Stating that the respect and affection for the Gandhi family had always been warm in the hills, Tamang in his letter to Sonia and Kharge further said: “May the Congress party get the privilege to serve the nation and the people of India in 2024 and the years to come.”

While Tamang is presently on the sidelines of hill politics, his decision to reach out to the Congress is keenly observed. Tamang had said on Sunday that both the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration had been formed by the Congress governments at the Centre.
