He suffered serious injuries and the bike was damaged. Some residents of Salugara, where the accident took place, took Chhetri to the local hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Chhetri was a resident of Sevoke Bazaar, 12km from Siliguri.

The bus was also on the way to Siliguri. A section of Salugara residents became agitated and attacked the bus alleging that rash driving had caused the accident. Police and fire brigade personnel arrived soon. The flames were doused and later, a recovery van was engaged to remove the charred vehicle and the mangled two-wheeler from the spot.

The incident also led to traffic congestion on the site. Additional police personnel were deployed to regulate the traffic.

Body found

In Cooch Behar, the body of a 29-year-old electrician was fished out of the Ghargharia river. Rafikul Miah, the victim, who is from Khapaidanga Bazar located under Pundibari police station of the district, had been missing since Friday night.

Police came to know that Miah had a spat with Amal Roy, a resident of the same area, over some monetary issues. The police detained Roy for interrogation and in due course, he purportedly confessed that he had hit Miah with a wooden plank and later dumped his body in the river. A case has been registered and Roy has been arrested, said sources.
