Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched an indirect attack on Nawsad Siddique and accused the ISF MLA of engineering the violence at Bhangar by misleading a section of the minorities and joining hands with the BJP.

Addressing a Trinamul Congress rally at the conclusion of Abhishek Banerjee’s mass outreach programme in Kakdwip, South 24-Parganas, Mamata refrained from taking Nawsad’s name but alleged that "some minorities and criminals took money from the BJP" to create trouble at Bhangar, where two persons had lost their lives on Thursday.

One of the two killed persons was a proposer for a prospective ISF candidate, while the other belonged to Trinamul. Several persons were injured in the violence, while a few dozen cars, two-wheelers, shops, and houses were set ablaze.

“Trinamul is not responsible for the tension in Bhangar. A political party created tension there taking money from the BJP and unleashed terror. Except for this place, such peaceful nomination submission was never before seen in the state,” she said.

“Two of our party workers were killed in Bhangar,” she said.

Nawsad reacted to Mamata's charge immediately and accused her of having an understanding with the BJP.

Speaking to the media persons, the ISF MLA said: “There has been tension in Bhangar. I went to Nabanna to meet her (Mamata Banerjee) but failed. She could not give me time but has time to garland BJP leader Subramanian Swamy... this amply proves who has the real bond with the BJP.”

Referring to his arrest in February, Nawsad said: “Police had seized my mobile phone. Let her ask the police to find out if there is any link between me and the BJP.”

On Friday, Bhangar tried to emerge from the violent incidents but the locality wore a deserted look with local people remaining largely indoors and only a few shops being kept open.

Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Friday visited Bijoyganj, Melarmath, Bhangar II BDO office, Kanthalia market, Bhangar College and other places where the tension had erupted on Thursday.

He also spoke to the local people and police officers, and promised “action” against the offenders.

Later in the afternoon, the police had trouble controlling people when the body of slain ISF supporter Mahiuddin Molla arrived at his home in Bhangar’s Joypur village.

Mahiuddin’s uncle Al Amin Molla accused Trinamul of killing his nephew.
