Two teams of CBI officers raided a Trinamul Congres leader’s house and a private teachers’ training college that he runs in Cooch Behar district.

The teams were accompanied by central security forces.

While one team reached BL Educational Teachers’ Training College at Tanganmari in Rajarhat, the other went to the house of Shyamal Kar in the Khagrabari area of Cooch Behar town.

Kar, sources said, opened the college a few years ago. B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) and D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) courses are taught at the college.

The sleuths couldn’t find Kar in his house.

He is staying away from his home for quite some time, said local people.

The team spoke to his brothers who look after the institution these days and gathered information from them.

At the college, the sleuths checked details like the admission process and scanned files on computers.

While the CBI officers reached the college, the authorities were hosting a programme to welcome freshers.

“We have no inkling why they came here. They have checked certain documents and told us to go ahead with the event,” said Kishore Kumar Das, the college principal.
