In the wake of a devastating storm that swept through Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, the Art of Living foundation, founded by spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, has stepped up to provide critical aid and support to the affected communities in the remotest parts of Maynaguri, Barnish and Putimari.

The powerful storm left behind a trail of destruction, with many families left homeless and without access to essential supplies. According to reports, over 800 families are currently sleeping under the open sky as their homes were damaged or destroyed.

Rakhi Brahma, an Art of Living volunteer from the Maynaguri area, who has also worked with the panchayat for 3 years, quickly mobilized a team of local volunteers to conduct a detailed survey of the affected regions.

"People have lost everything, and they are in dire need of assistance," Brahma shared. "We leveraged the Art of Living network to gather essential supplies and reach the most remote parts of the district."

The survey yielded crucial insights, prompting The Art of Living to swiftly organize a multifaceted relief effort. From torches and batteries to essential bedding such as mattresses, towels, and bedsheets, every effort has been made to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by the affected families.

Additionally, provisions of staple food items, including rice, gud, and dry goods for children, have been dispatched to ensure sustenance amidst adversity.

Recognizing the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in preventing further health complications, The Art of Living has also distributed cleaning supplies such as soap and detergent.

Moreover, medical aid has been extended to the wounded, accompanied by hygiene products to safeguard against illness and infection.

"Our teams on the ground have worked tirelessly to reach the most vulnerable communities," said Shri Anil Tiwari, Apex member of the Art of Living in West Bengal and the IAHV. "We will also be providing tin sheets to help rebuild the damaged houses in the affected areas."
